Ancient Civilizations have had it down since thousands years ago with the understanding that everything is made up of energy, and in a constant state of vibration. They understood that everything holds a vibrational frequency- the most elemental state of vibration being sound. Each sound; holds a specific resonance it gives off. When we are in resonance with certain sound frequencies- we are balanced.
Sound energy travels in waves; and can travel through solids, liquids, and gases aka us. These sounds travel in patterns formed in the vibration or movement of molecules in the air. Every organ and every cell in our body absorbs and emits these sounds out with a particular frequency. The ancient Egyptians were of course the first to really know whats up, not only using drums and rattles; but chanting vowels to heal with the frequencies. Sound and music were the tuning forks to these civilizations; as they understood that our bodies are vibrating and each organ holds a different frequency.
Sound Healing is a beautiful alternative to healing that helps re-balance the autonomic nervous system; ultimately creating overall healing for the body, mind, & Spirit. Our nervous system is what keeps us electrically booted and going. The nervous system controls the body as it receives information from the brain, essentially telling separate parts of the body how to react in a given situation.
Its vital to understand that our body is a perfectly conductive biological system and is very sensitive to electromagnetic frequencies, which means it’s easy to disturb your body’s natural rhythm. With all these EMF towers, pollution, daily stress, and extra built up nonsense; we need to find ways to transmute these energies.
Multiple studies are confirming the healing abilities that sound has on individuals; aiding in reducing insomnia in individuals, stress, lower blood pressure, improve breathing & circulation, anxiety, PTSD, & more.
On the emotional and mental bodies, music is very effective. In particular, music affects the limbic system, the aspect of the brain which governs emotional response. Through using specific music (specific for the individual), we can help elicit certain emotional responses that may be very therapeutic and transformative in their nature.
For the spiritual body, both sound and music can be equally effective. Self-created sounds, vowel sounds and harmonics are very powerful ways to work with sound, though of course, listening to either recorded or live music or chanting can also be very effective.
To understand the fundamentals of sound in healing, we must first understand our brain waves. The nucleus of our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, is the communication between neurons. Brain waves are generated by way of electrical pulses working in unison from masses of neurons interacting with one another. Brain waves are divided into five different bandwidths that are thought to form a spectrum of human consciousness.
Stay tuned to learn more about each of these brain waves and how you can use sound to heal yourself.
